Discovery and Application of Postnatal Nucleus Pulposus Progenitors Essential for Intervertebral Disc Homeostasis and Degeneration (Adv. Sci. 13/2022)
Long time debate focusing on whether nucleus pulposus cells (NPs) in intervertebral disc (IVD) harbor progenitor cells essential for IVD homeostasis and repairment. In article number 2104888, Bo Gao, Zhuojing Luo, Weiguo Zou, and co-workers identify novel UTS2R NP progenitor cells not only essential for IVD repairment, but giving rise to multiple functional NP cells, which interacted with each other to maintain IVD homeostasis, just like “Taichi” exist between heaven and earth, giving birth to “Yin” and “Yang”, which further generate “Bagua” to balance everything in the universe. +
